Gro is a wellness fellowship which nurtures mind, body and spirit through connection to the environment. Recognizing the therapeutic power of nature, we seek to serve our communities by cultivating natural beauty, healthy foods, and neighborly service. We hold space for those who have been impacted by addiction, and understand that active service is the key to spiritual growth and sustained sobriety. Gro began as an urban gardening project in Huntington, WV. The mission was to revitalize the city by providing under-served populations the opportunity to connect with the earth and develop job skills. Our role would be to cultivate a green community, to grow food, and to support connection. After three years, one small garden has the potential to become thousands as we spread our fellowship model across the nation.
Gro Fellowships follow a framework: first, participants read from a devotional or are guided through a meditation, they then check in with one another, and then participate in a shared nature-based activity like gardening, hiking, or crafts. Gro Fellowships can be held anywhere and can serve anyone, though they are helpful in serving those impacted by addiction. Soon, we will be offering fellowship facilitator trainings. Facilitators will be equipped to run fellowship meetings and will be provided with a starter kit.
